Almost on my feet again

I started with the first signs of the flu back on January 20th. Maybe next year I'll listen and get both shots! This is the first day I've really been up on my feet for any time at all. I managed to get the border and the body of the second quilt started. Now it's back to bed because I'm feeling pretty awful.

Just when...

I thought I was up and running, along came the flu and knocked me off my feet. I'll be back after I shake the chills and fever!

Feeling good about this quilt

I spent the day putting the first quilt top together. Pictures are wonderful for seeing your mistakes. I was just about ready to post the photo when I noticed I had reversed two rows in the quilt! After an hour of ripping and sewing, I did finish the top, minus the border.

Oops, looks like the row of blue blocks are missing in one row.

Finished, just waiting for the fabric order to arrive to add the border.
If just feels good reading the names on the back of each block. A lot of love comes with these hearts.

Coming back........

Coming back...I know I've been somewhere, just don't know exactly where that was. Down in the dumps, depressed, whatever name you give it, it's not a place I want to be. So, I'm coming back. It's time to pull myself up by my britches and be a part of life. I do this best when I'm working on something for someone else.

All the heart blocks are in for the 2 quilts I need to work on for a friend who lost her son and toddler grandson back in November. One quilt for her and one for her daughter in law.

It always amazes me that you get beautiful quilts out of blocks from so many ladies and no quilt pattern. The amount of blocks determines how they will be placed to make a quilt top. After laying them out and adding blue blocks, I decided it needed more white which I ordered on line. In the meantime, I have almost all the sections of the first quilt put together.

Yep, that is the Christmas tree in the background. Maybe after I get these tops put together I'll feel in the mood to take it down, or maybe not.

This is the last section on the right side, bottom to sew together and then I can start on quilt 2 while I wait for the order to arrive. The second quilt will be totally different, more large blocks and less small heart blocks.

This must be my year

I'm trying to pull myself out of depression, the house, the snow and what it does to me when it gets cold. I sat looking out the window as the skies dumped more snow on the already 20 + inches we have.

Yesterday I saw the mail girl put a box in the mailbox that sits across the road. I knew I would have to wait for my son to bring in the mail..the next day. Tonight I was feeling pretty poorly but when the box was brought inside, it was just too much to wait until I felt better.

The box came from Talia, a friend on HGTV. I can't imagine why I got so many wonderful gifts this year. All those old superstitions from my German relatives are swirling around. Maybe this is my last party, but I won't think about that right now, I'll think about that tomorrow. (Thanks for that line, Scarlett)

When I look at the quilting tools I have, it wonders me how I get anything put together! I've had the same small rotary cutter, that I got at a yard sale, for many years. My embroidery scissors is a kids $1.00 school scissors I got at walmart. I've bought many good tools but gifted them all. Thanks to Talia, I now have the Queen of rotary cutters and my son got me the queen of embroidery scissors.

Talia made wonderful gift bags and filled them with all kinds of embroidery thread, Plus boxes of special DMC threads.

Beads and tassels

A very special package of her tatted pieces

To top off all the wonderful quilting items, she sent furniture for my doll house. Besides the cute bedroom furniture there is everything from a porch swing to a ceramic sink and mirro. The lights are electric and of course there is a sewing machine!
THANKS TALIA, what a treat! I've never felt so special! Now we all have to get together and use some of this wonderful thread!
